“Let’s have a chat.”
It covers so many situations, doesn’t it? Friends meeting over a coffee, strangers at a networking event, colleagues trying to sort out a problem…
Having a chat’s basically what content marketing is all about. Passing on news – explaining how things work – talking about the people in your business – introducing new, exciting finds – offering solutions to common problems – discovering the challenges your prospects are facing – celebrating your and their successes.
In other words, getting to know and trust each other. Like the first few dates with a new boyfriend or girlfriend. You’d get to know them before you sign up for the long haul, wouldn’t you? You wouldn’t propose marriage on the first date.
Yet that’s what so much traditional marketing does: it goes straight to the proposal, with none of the courtship. Content marketing does the courting. It takes time, and it builds relationships that stand the test of time. It’s not looking for a one-night stand.
Just a chat.
