Terms & Conditions:

 The contract

By contracting with GreatCopy, you confirm that you’ve been given the opportunity to read my terms and conditions, and that you agree to be bound by them.

The contract is made between us when you formally commission my services, accept my quotation and provide me with a full creative brief for the job.

The service

My goal is always to fulfil your requirements completely from the brief, provided it has been provided in sufficient time for me to meet your deadline.  I reserve the right to charge an extra fee for rush jobs and cannot guarantee to fit them in to my schedule.

Within the agreed timescales, I’ll provide you an initial draft to review. Often, this will hit the mark first time.

If you have any feedback or comments, I’ll incorporate these into a second draft and send it to you for signoff.  This is all part of the agreed quotation.  For weekly blogs and newsletters, any revisions must be completed before the publication deadline; other work, such as websites, may take up to one working week from receipt of your feedback.

It’s unlikely, but if there are significant or excessive rewrites required, I reserve the right to make reasonable extra charges, especially if the rewrites are due to significant changes to the creative brief along the way. I’ll always discuss this with you directly before applying any extra charges for any more work.

The payment

All quotes are for the total cost: I am not VAT-registered, so I will not add it to the bill and you cannot reclaim it.

For any job over £100, 50% of the total cost is payable before I start writing.  A further 25% is payable on receipt of the copy, before editing.  The final 25% is due when you are happy with the final copy, including up to two edits.  For jobs invoiced at less that £100, payment is due immediately on acceptance of the finished copy; I do NOT offer extended payment terms.

Should I not ask for pre-payment and you decide to cancel for any reason after I start work on a project, I reserve the right to bill you for the time already spent on it.

For pre-paid monthly contracts, payment must be made by standing order in advance. Because copy for monthly contracts is supplied weekly, if you do not give me sufficient information to allow me to fulfil my part of the contract within a reasonable time and you do not give me a good reason for failing to supply the information, any monies already paid will be forfeit (i.e. no refunds will be paid).

Payment can be made by bank transfer or cheque, or you can pay by credit card via PayPal (2.5% surcharge) if you prefer.  Payment details can be found on the invoice; any problems, please contact me.

The copyright

The copyright in all material produced by GreatCopy remains with me until I’ve received your full payment for the job.  Once you’ve paid in full, the copyright passes to you. (See below if you want to reprint one of my blog posts.)

However, I reserve the right to publish samples of the work on this website or in any other promotional material once you’ve used it yourself and it’s in the public domain.  I’ll include a link to your website unless you tell me you’d rather I didn’t.

Confidentiality

I’ll make every effort to protect any confidential company material and information that you provide to me, and I won’t disclose it to any third parties or make use of it in any other way. For further peace of mind, if you’d like me to sign a formal confidentiality agreement, just let me know.

Indemnity

I take great care and pride in my work, but I cannot be held liable for any loss or damage suffered by you or any third party as a result of the use or reproduction of the copy I’ve supplied to you. Also, you agree to indemnify GreatCopy in respect of any claims, damages or costs arising in any manner from its use or reproduction. Basically, by accepting and using the copy I’ve created, you agree to take full responsibility for any issues which may arise.

Applicable Law

This agreement is governed by the laws of Scotland.

Cancellation

If you commission me to start work and subsequently want to cancel the job before I’ve finished it, I’ll make a reasonable charge based on the amount of work I’ve already completed for you. I’ll always be as flexible and realistic as possible, but I reserve the right to charge up to 100% of the total cost of the job if necessary.

Variation

These terms and conditions can’t be varied, except by prior agreement in writing from me.
